Map of the Spheres.
The Spheres is a fictional solar system created by Coldplay for the concept of their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres. It is composed of nine planets, three natural satellites, a star, and a nebula, with each of the bodies representing a track in the album. Of the fourteen bodies on The Spheres, twelve are known to have their own characteristic language.
The system was first revealed through Alien Radio FM and the Music of the Spheres album trailer "Overtura" on 20 July 2021, the announcement day. The album artwork also features every celestial body from The Spheres.
Overview and background[]
The Spheres is a solar system composed of fourteen known celestial bodies, most of them being planets and natural satellites. According to the official music video of "My Universe", the second single on the album, music is banned across the Spheres; those who oppose the ban and break it are hunted down by the Silencers. The Silencers are a callback to the concept of Coldplay's fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto.
Structure[]
The overall structure of the charted regions of the system of The Spheres, following the order of appearance on "Overtura", consists of:
- Kaotica
- Echo (and its moon)
- Aurora
- Calypso
- Kubik
- Supersolis
- Ultra
- Floris
- Epiphane (surrounded by Neon Moon I and Neon Moon II)
- Infinity Station
- Coloratura
Echo's moon and both Neon Moons are natural satellites, while Supersolis and Coloratura are the only star and nebula located on the system, respectively.
