KAOTICA

Kaotica is a fictional planet created by Coldplay for the concept of their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres. It is the first planet on The Spheres solar system and represents the song "Higher Power", the lead single and second track on the album.

Overview[]

Chris Martin revealed in interviews that Kaotica is a planet full of rejects, covered in trash from the surrounding planets, which shelters outcasts, rejected people and diverse alien species.[1][2] The planet features an altered space-time,[3] and it is the first celestial body in the solar system of The Spheres.[4]

Creation and usage[]

Kaotica's visuals were designed by Argentinean artist and graphic designer Pilar Zeta and visual artist Victor Scorrano. Concerning the creation process, Scorrano declared, “We passed days and nights immersed in parallel universes, exploring new shapes, new worlds. That's how we created Kaotica [...]”.[3]

Kaotica's appearance was first revealed printed on a physical, limited edition CD single of "Higher Power", with its name being confirmed by Phil Harvey on the announcement.[5] The official music video for "Higher Power" takes place on Kaotica and depicts Chris exploring the planet and dancing with Kaoticans, only to be joined by Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion at the song's last chorus and blasting off the planet's atmosphere in the end of the clip. Kaotica is also shown on the official lyric video for the song.

Language and alphabet[]

Kaotica's official language is Kaotican; it is represented by luminous logographics, each corresponding to a letter in the Romanian alphabet, from A to Z, as well as numbers from 0 to 9. In the band's website, a Kaotican translator was made available before "Higher Power"'s release, depicting each letter of the alphabet and how they are properly pronounced. Kaotican is also featured on the single artwork of "Higher Power", as well as in its music and lyric video.
