Kaleidoscope EP is the eleventh extended play by British rock band Coldplay. It was released worldwide on 14 July 2017 and features tracks left over from the studio sessions for Coldplay's seventh studio album, A Head Full of Dreams (2015). The EP is a sister release to the 2015 album.

Background and release[]

In December 2015, Coldplay released A Head Full of Dreams, their seventh studio album, and embarked on the A Head Full of Dreams Tour on 31 March 2016. In September 2016, The Chainsmokers — American music producer duo — shared two short clips of a new song featuring vocals from Chris Martin via Snapchat.

During an Absolute Radio interview with Chris and Jonny Buckland at the London Palladium on 11 November 2016, Chris mentioned that Coldplay were finishing songs for a new extended play titled Kaleidoscope EP, which he described as an “extension of this world that we're trying to create with this album, A Head Full of Dreams.”[1] In another interview, Chris said the EP would be released “in a couple of months”, and stated that the record would contain “really good Coldplay” music.[2] On 21 November, Chris revealed the EP's title via the band's official Twitter account, with a release expected for the following year.[3]

On 22 February 2017, Coldplay released their collaboration with The Chainsmokers, "Something Just Like This", live debuting it at the Brit Awards in London.[4] On 2 March, the band officially announced the five-track EP, with an initial release date scheduled for June 2nd, and also surprise-released "Hypnotised" as the first promotional single.[5]
