"Bigger Stronger" is a song by Coldplay from their first and second extended plays, Safety E.P. and The Blue Room E.P., respectively, being the opening track on both EPs. The first ever music video released by the band was for this song, launched in September 1999.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car
To take me anywhere in seconds
To take me anywhere I wanna go
And drive around a faster car
I will settle for nothing less
I will settle for nothing less

[Verse 2]
I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car
At the touch of a button
I can go anywhere I wanna go
And drive around a faster car
I will settle for nothing less
I will settle for nothing less

[Chorus]
I think I want to change my altitude
I think I want to change my oxygen
I think I want to change my air
My atmosphere
I wanna recharge

[Verse 3]
I wanna be bigger, stronger, drive a faster car
To take me anywhere in seconds
To take me anywhere I wanna go
And drive around my faster car
I will settle for nothing less
I will settle for nothing less

[Chorus]
I think I need to change my attitude
I think I want to change my oxygen
I think I want to change my air
My atmosphere
I wanna choke

[Outro]
Bigger and better
Bigger and better
Bigger and better
Bigger and better
Bigger, stronger, drive a faster car
At the touch of a button
I can go anywhere I wanna go

Music video[]

The official music video for "Bigger Stronger" marks as the first the band has ever released. It was directed by Mat Whitecross in August 1999 and was released in the band's website in September 1999. Whitecross would become a longtime collaborator of the band, directing concerts and various music videos for the band years later.

The video was originally intended to be for the song "Spies", from their debut album Parachutes, but it was changed the night before the shooting. In an interview, Whitecross recalled: "With "Bigger Stronger", Chris rang me the night before and changed the song. It was going to be "Spies", but they changed it at the last minute. I remember I'd been working on a student short with Penelope Keith and he rang me up pretending to be her. And I was so tired that I was completely taken in."[1]
