"Feels Like I'm Falling in Love" (stylised as "feelslikeimfallinginlove") is a song by British rock band Coldplay from their upcoming tenth studio album, Moon Music (2024). It is the second track on the album and was released as the lead single on 21 June 2024 through Parlophone in the United Kingdom and Atlantic Records in the United States.

Release and promotion[]

On 4 June, Coldplay first teased an excerpt of lyrics for "Feels Like I'm Falling in Love" on Twitter, accompanied by a tulip emoji.[1] On 7 June, the band shared a video teaser of the new single through their social media profiles, featuring a 20-second snippet of the song with a caption reading, “first time”, alongside a moon emoji and #flifil. The video was shot in time-lapse at the Santa Monica Pier, California, showcasing Chris Martin singing to the snippet in front of the Pacific Park amusement park's Ferris wheel.[2] On the same day, Phil Harvey surprise-visited a fan meeting event held by ColdplayXtra at the Hard Rock Cafe in Athens, Greece, — city where the band would perform the following day — and provided additional details about the new album Moon Music, stating that the album “covers the full spectrum of what they can do as a band and who they are as a band” and acknowledging it would “take a little longer with vinyls and all that”, but assuring fans an announcement was expected soon. At the time, fans also had the opportunity to listen to "Feels Like I'm Falling in Love" beforehand through private headphones provided by the band's staff.[3]

While in Athens, Coldplay invited local fans to participate in the shooting of a music video at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on 10 June, following reports from Greek media outlets that the band would film at the venue on that date.[4][5]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I know that this could hurt me bad
I know that this could feel like that
But I just can't stop
Let my defences drop
I know that I was born to kill
Any angel on my windowsill
But it's so dark inside
I throw the windows wide

[Pre-Chorus]
I know, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
I know, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Still I don't let go
And fields of flowers grow

[Chorus]
Oh, it feels like I'm falling in love
Maybe for the first time
Baby, it's my mind you blow
It feels like I'm falling in love
You're throwing me a lifeline
This is for a lifetime, I know

[Verse 2]
I know that in this kind of scene
Of two people there's a spark between
One gets torn apart
One gets a broken heart

[Pre-Chorus]
I know, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
I know, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Still I don't let go
And fields of flowers grow

[Chorus]
Oh, it feels like I'm falling in love
Maybe for the first time
Baby, it's my mind you blow
It feels like I'm falling in love
You're throwing me a lifeline
This is for a lifetime, I know

[Bridge]
Ooh
Ooh (Feels like)
Woah

[Chorus]
It feels like I'm falling in love
You're throwing me a lifeline
Oh, now for the first time
I know I'm not alone

[Outro]
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo, oh
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo
Ah-la-la, la-la, lo-lee-lo, oh

Critical reception[]

"Feels Like I'm Falling in Love" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Andrew Unterberger from Billboard described the song as “Coldplay generally doing what they do best: love songs with moody verses and blood-rush choruses that you can remember after a single listen.”[6] Stereogum's Chris DeVille commented that “despite the involvement of a pop mastermind like Max Martin, who also worked on 2021's crossover-minded Music of the Spheres, [it] comes off a bit more like mid-2000s imperial Coldplay with a bit more sparkle.”[7]
