Coldplay is the forthcoming eponymous twelfth studio album by Coldplay. It is set to release at the end of 2025, allegedly as the band's final studio record.

Background

Upon the release of Coldplay's ninth studio album Music of the Spheres on 15 October 2021, Chris Martin exclusively revealed to NME that the band intend to make three more albums after it, finishing their studio record discography on the twelve-album mark.

The first announcement of Coldplay's self-titled album was made during their performance in the BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge on 26 October; when asked if the band would adopt the current model of releasing EPs rather than albums due to greater creative control and far less pressure involved, Chris stated once again they would only release three more studio albums, with their discography ending at the twelfth album, called “just Coldplay”. He added, however, that the band would still keep touring occasionally and “might create stuff in other ways”.

Given the band's history of claiming future albums might be their last, Phil Harvey confirmed Chris' previous statements in an interview for ColdplayXtra on 8 November 2021, not reducing them to mere “throwaway comment[s]”. Phil also revealed Chris has written most of the songs for the project.

During an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2 on 23 December, Chris has put a date on the ending point and explained that their “last proper record will come out at the end of 2025, and after that I think we will only tour. And maybe we'll do some sort of collaborative things, but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes there.” He also mentioned the record will “be a very back to basics album” and noted how some of his “favourite artists have a catalogue that starts and finishes" and feels it resonates with the band's work.

On 26 January 2022, Chris reaffirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that Coldplay only have three more albums left to make, with the last one being released by 2025.
