"Brothers & Sisters" is a song by Coldplay and their debut single. It was released by Fierce Panda Records in 1999, following the release of their debut record, Safety E.P., in 1998. The song peaked at number 92 on the UK Singles Chart and 1,500 copies of its vinyl edition were issued in a special wrap-around picture sleeve. It was re-released as an extended play by Brash Records in late 2002.
According to the single's liner notes, recording was completed in only four days and cost the band £400. The atmospheric sounds on the B-side track "Easy to Please" were created by setting up microphones on a wet road outside the studio. There are three versions of the song: the first and original one can be found on the "Ode to Deodorant" promo cassette, from 1998. The second is this release from 1999. The third and final version appeared as a B-side of the single "Trouble", from the band's debut album Parachutes.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
Breakdown, breakdown
Gotta spread love around
Gotta spread it around
[Verse 2]
Brothers and sisters feel fine
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
There's no sound, no sound
Like this feeling you found
Like this feeling you found
But just stay down
[Chorus]
'Cause sometimes you'll feel
So stay down
Sometimes you feel
[Post-Chorus]
And it's me they're looking for
And it's me, I will never survive
But we'll be around so long
[Verse 3]
Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives
It's the time of your lives
Breakdown, breakdown
Gotta spread love around
Gotta spread it around
But just stay down
[Chorus]
And sometimes you feel
So stay 'round
And sometimes you feel
[Post-Chorus]
And it's me they're looking for
And it's me, I will never survive
But we'll be around some long
[Outro]
And it's gonna be alright
And it's gonna be alright
And it's gonna be alright
