"Animals" is a song by Coldplay and the second B-side track of "Clocks", the third single from A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002).
Background[]
The song was first introduced during live performances of the Parachutes Tour in 2000 and 2001 becoming a band and crowd favourite to be played on tour. Although it was considered to be released on A Rush of Blood to the Head, it ended up not making the final cut.
In an exclusive interview with Jonny Buckland for an e-zine made available on the band's website written by Debs Wild, she asked why the song has been left off the album, to which he replied saying: "It’s not actually finished. It’s kind of half recorded and we just didn’t really get excited about it so we didn’t put it on, but maybe later we’ll do something with it." He also added it wouldn't be saved for the third album, X&Y.[1]
In a ranking of the band's entire discography, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the release of Parachutes (2000), NME said the song is "gnarled and prowling as it delves into wild instincts before then fading away in a strange, dissonant collision of ambient noise."[2]
The song is the second B-Side on the "Clocks" single, along with "Crests of Waves".
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Animals we are
Disposable, collapsible and raw
In you go into some crowded room
And animals that climb
And they're climbing over you until you say
"Off you go, off you go"
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Animal I am
And I'm looking for an answer just like you
But I should know which way to turn
An animal that runs
And I ran away from you because I'm scared
"Now off you go, off you go"
[Chorus]
If you're gonna go, go now
If you're gonna go, go now
I forgot to tell you how
So if you're gonna go
Go now
Oh, oh
[Verse 2]
Animal you are
Disposable defenceless yes and
Watch your mouth, boys watch your mouth
An animal that runs
And I made all my excuses to you
And I missed my chance by a stones throw
[Chorus]
If you're gonna go, go now
If you're gonna go, go now
I forgot to tell you how
So if you're gonna go
Go now
[Bridge]
Go now
Ah, go now
Go now
One
[Outro]
And I crumble
Crumble and fall
Crumble and fall like an animal
I crumble
Crumble and fall
Crumble and fall like an animal
Yes I crumble
Crumble and fall
Crumble and fall like an animal
Yes I crumble
Crumble and fall
Crumble and fall like an animal
