Alien Radio FM

Alien Radio FM is a website created by Coldplay to promote their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres. It was launched on 21 April 2021[1] to announce the release of the lead single "Higher Power" in the following weeks, along with Coldplay's comeback after a year-long hiatus since the ending of the Everyday Life Era in 2020. During the promotional period of "Higher Power", the campaign was used as an interactive internet radio station, which tuned in a compilation of cryptic audios in different languages and sounds. It has since been used to tease any major upcoming release during the Music of the Spheres Era in anticipation of an “official” announcement on the band's main social media.

Higher Power[]

The first sign of the Alien Radio FM came from their Twitter account on 18 April 2021, which reads, “Transmission incoming. Standby.”[2] On 21 April, it started scanning to locate signals and the website was officially launched; it used to feature a static-filled night's sky with a minimalistic, rotating globe in the center of the screen. Visitors' cursors are turned into a four-pointed star, and moving it across the page “tunes in” the frequency along both X- and Y-axes to reveal multi-lingual messages, with subjects ranging from the anatomy of baseballs and advertisements for the Scottish highlands for satellite launches to excerpts from Sherlock Holmes' Adventure of the Dancing Men and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The Alien Radio socials started posting images and videos captioned with coordinates from around the world, always linking to the website. This was also listed as the official site on Coldplay's own accounts, which had been retweeting these dispatches.
